Originally from Zhejiang, China, Fanxi Sun is an artist now based in the U.S. Since moving from her home city to Midwest America, Sun has been in the constant practice of balancing adaptation to a western society and maintaining the deep-rooted eastern ideologies she grew up with. Reflecting her ideas, Sun’s film work examines self-understanding, self-expression, and self-awareness; and illustrates bonds, discrepancies, and external impediments in interpersonal relationships. Her still photographic work is influenced by her filmmaking. These black-and-white works correspond to her pursuit of integration and her fascination with human-to-human as well as human-to-environment connections. In May of 2020, Sun graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in film studies. She will start pursuing an MFA program in Fall 2021 to further her artistic interests in film and photography.
